Chapter 1: The Ghastly Shadow!
The encompassing darkness was all around, suffocating the air. A gigantic and menacing shadow loomed, growing bigger and bigger with each passing moment. The toll of three bells reverberated through the chamber, drowning out Aryan's labored breaths. He was sweating and shaking, and his throat hurt. As he took a desperate sip from his water bottle, a searing pain surged through his throat, as if his very bones were breaking, his muscles tearing into pieces... The shadow kept getting closer, and Aryan didn't know what to do.
The room fell into an eerie silence, a frozen tableau of Aryan, the colossal specter, and the darkness. He was unsure what was happening. His instinct urged him to escape, scream loud, shout for help, fight back the ghastly shadow. He was shivering in fear and anxiety, taking painful breaths, and completely covered with perspiration!
"No!"
Aryan bellowed in a crescendo of agony, snapping awake from his nocturnal torment. The window was sealed shut, chilling air conditioning keeping the room cool. Beads of sweat adorned his forehead, and he clung tightly to his quilt, his body still shivering. Good heavens! It was that frightful dream again, an unwelcome nightmare that plagued Aryan relentlessly, for many years!
Ruzal's eyes snapped open at the sound of Aryan's anguished scream. She sat up in bed, her heart pounding in her chest. The digital clock on her nightstand read 3:00 AM. It was too late to go to him, but she couldn't just lie there and do nothing.
She wanted to call him, check on him, and offer her help. But her fingers were frozen, paralyzed with fear. She couldn't move. She could only listen as he continued to scream, his cries of pain echoing through the night.
Ruzal closed her eyes and tried to block out the sound, but it was no use. She could hear him as clearly as he was right beside her. She could feel his pain as if it were her own. She lay there for what felt like an eternity, listening to him scream. Finally, the screams stopped. But Ruzal couldn't relax. She knew that he was still in pain, even if she couldn't hear him anymore.
She lay there for a long time, staring at the ceiling. She couldn't sleep. She couldn't even think straight. All she could do was think about Aryan and his pain.
